This new location was still in downtown Salt Lake City on the fourth floor of the the Crane building, where Forster’s remained for more than ten years. 

After being in business for about 15-20 years, we were able to offer repair for cameras, lenses, slide projectors, movie projectors, flashes, lighting systems, light meters, binoculars, spotting scopes, and even warranty repair on Canon copiers. To this day, several long-time customers recall visiting our shop located in the Crane building.

Resurrecting cameras since 1971

Before opening Forster's Camera Service, our founder, John Forster studied at National Camera in Colorado. After studying for about a year and graduating with a 98%, John remained in Colorado for about 2 years working for National Camera. Upon Returning to Utah, John first opened Forster's Camera Service July 1, 1971 at 34 Richard Street in downtown Salt Lake City where he worked as the only technician. As the demand for camera repair grew so did the business and John was soon required to hire more technicians.  

After just a few years at the first location, we made the move over to the Howard Johnson Hotel. Forster's offered repair for almost any type of camera and was a warranty repair center for Polaroid, Fuji, Canon, Nikon, and Minolta. We had also become factory authorized repair for several companies including Leica, Mamiya, and Hasselblad. This helped to build the company enough that Forster’s again would need to find a new location. So around the late 70’s-early 80’s, Forster’s again relocated the business.

In the early 90’s, instead of staying in the Crane building, John decided to purchase the building at our current location, 40 West Century Parkway in South Salt Lake. 

Since 2007, John has officially retired, but still stops in from time to time to repair certain items; and although John and several other technicians have retired, we still offer repair for anything photographic you can bring us, and if we can’t repair it, we will try to find you someone who can.

Still committed to quality service, we strive to keep up with current technology so we may continue to offer a variety of different repair services.
